La Merce & Aigues

Last week the festival La Merce was celebrated here in Barcelona. They had a lot of music events, art and cultural shows around the city. I have unfortunately got a bit of a flu and didn't participate in many of the events, but got at least to check out some of them!

On Thursday, the last night of the celebrations there was a huge firework show down at Placa Espanya!

On Friday night we went to discover the surroundings, and found our way up to Carretera De Les Aigues, which is a long trail on a mountain behind the city. It was absolutely amazing up there! Perfect for bicycling and running or just go for walks! Can't complain to have an awesome view out over the city as well! Definitely going back up there!

La Sagrada Familia

This morning I started off with a nice run down the avenue close to our home. Was a bit sceptic about running in the city with all the traffic and people in your way, but it was actually great! There's this huge avenue called Diagonal with a lot of space and it was so nice to just come flying down the streets.
The best way to discover a place is to run around and get lost! Got to see heaps of awesome buildings and cute little stores along the way.

Well, then after some getting lost time and just enjoying running around the quarters, I ended up at La Sagrada Familia! It was absolutely amazing, the basilica is of course still under construction and there is these building thingos around the place, but it was still awesome to see it!

Viva Mexico!

Yesterday we ended up at the Mexican Independence Day celebrations at Poble Espanyol de Barcelona. First we went to Placa Espanyol, where we got lost 1 hour in search of the right place, but during that time we got to see  an amazing fountain where the water moved along music playing and also beautiful buildings in the area, so can't complain!
At the Mexican party there where a great live band playing and all people sang along with the music. We had some mexican food and drinks and just enjoyed the music until it ended after midnight and half of us went home. Great night!

Hola Barcelona!

Alright, finally I'm sort of settled here in Barcelona! I'm just continuing on this old blog which I had a few years ago, in case you wonder why there is a bunch of other posts here.

I'm gonna write a bit about my first week here!

I started of with a night at the Hipstel Hostel in the centre and went to meet Stine, a girl from Denmark and her Danish friends. First night ended up in some bars and a nightclub, got to try a bit of Barcas nightlife! Which was really nice. Tuesday was a chill day down at the beach and just strolling around on the streets, started as well to check out what sort of accommodation we should look for.

Wednesday and Thursday we spent morning to night looking for apartments and rooms with Stine, and we realized quite quick it might not be as easy as we thought. All places we contacted either was full already or didn't answer. We went to an agency and spent 3 hours waiting for help and left without any, the service was so slow.
I had to take more nights at the hostel, which was a nice place but when sleeping in a room with 10 others, people partying, smoking inside and snoring like monsters the urge to find a place on our own was incredibly high.

On Thursday evening after a full day of searching for places and navigating through the city in the rain, we went to look at two rooms in an shared apartment, which we really hoped for was good so we could take. The owner though lived in the same flat and was so creepy so we decided quite fast that it is a big NO. Exhausted and dissapointed we went back to the hostel and continued searching.

10pm on the same night Stine got a text from a mexican guy that he lives in a 10 room apartment newly renovated if we're interested. Well, we jumped in our shoes again and went right away to have a look! And it was amazing!

Friday morning we got to the apartment to meet the owner, before everyone else came that had a meeting with him as well. Long story short, the owner was very friendly and just spoke Spanish with us, but luckily he got his little daughter with him who knew some English. We had already decided our rooms and took them straight away, got our bags from the hostel and moved in. Felt soo good! Now we can finally start enjoying the city when we have a home!

Yesterday (Friday) was the National day of Catalonia, which is a big celebration and everyone walk around with the Catalonian flag. Me, Stine and two of our flatmates went to have a look at the celebrations but then took an early night to go home and get some proper sleep.

Today we spent half the day at IKEA to get all basic stuff that we needed. Today is also the Independence Day of Mexico, which our flatmate wants us to celebrate also, so might go and check what party they got organized!

I put in some pictures as well from the last couple of days!

The flat is still under renovation and it has been workers here the whole day, but it should be finished on Monday. Overall it is so nice, with everything brand new and organized that you have your own number on all things the owner has provided! Our flatmates so far are from Mexico, Portugal and Chile. On Monday is the last ones moving in so we getting to meet them then!
